Newspaper In Education (NIE) is a partnership between newspapers and schools in which teachers use classroom sets of newspapers as an educational resource in a variety of age and curriculum settings.

The Cadillac News’ Newspaper in Education program promotes literacy, connects students to their community and world, and provides teachers with a powerful educational tool, the daily newspaper. The educational services of the newspaper provided by The Cadillac News is available to teachers at no cost. The paper can be used every day or only once a week. The Cadillac News delivers the papers directly to the school.

NIE can make a difference in the classroom! Many teachers have found students who use newspapers in their classroom curriculum increase and improve:

  • Reading skills
  • Verbal interactions
  • Student motivation and behavior
  • Achievement scores
  • Awareness of the world and their communities.
  • Learning from the real world has magnetic appeal for students. That’s one reason why the newspaper is the perfect teaching tool.

In addition, using a newspaper in the classroom improves:

  • Student vocabulary skills
  • Increases knowledge
  • Encourages a positive attitude toward learning.

How can I help?

Through NIE, the Cadillac News is delivered FREE to any classroom that requests it. As you can imagine, the demand for the NIE program is strong. More teachers are requesting the newspaper in their classrooms.

Due to industry auditing guidelines, the Cadillac News can only pay half of the cost for the newspaper. We are looking for business partners to help sponsor the newspaper going into classrooms.
